Furnace – control making "clicking' noise??

Question:

<< need to call a furnace contractor to service the furnace? Probably a good idea. You may have funky control letting the gas solenoid valve chatter. A good hvac guy can get it shipshape before it quits at the worst possible time. Do it soon. Joe

Response:

We have a similar noice on our furnace that is now 19 years old.  I’ve had it inspected by one outfit and cleaned by our gas company (service plan). It’s apparently the ignitor that is making the noice as it starts up.  The ignitor was replaced a couple of years ago and I was told it was nothing to worry about.  Can’t hurt to have it looked at, though.  Had we not had our service plan, the inspection and tuneup would have run $100 – FYI. Good luck.

– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Of late, I periodically notice a repeating clicking noise coming from the home furnace – seems coming from control on it – could it be relays making the noise? This has happened about 3-4 times a day (I have heard) and has gone on for a month?  Anyone know what this can be?  Is it unusual, and therefore, there is a need to call a furnace contractor to service the furnace? Thanks in advance for any help.

Response:

Thanks – called heating service – control was cleaned but problem continued – control (pilot module) had to be replaced, at a charge of $500. (OUCH!)

It could be an ignition control or gas valve problem. you probably should get it looked at before it goes out on you.  -= HvacTech2 <=- ..
