Furnace reviews?
Question:
I am shopping for a new furnace and am looking for reviews or feedback on different manufactures. I am looking for web sites with feedback or reviews. Or if people want to through out good names I would appreciate it. We have a small house, under 1000 sq ft. Any suggestions on where to look would be great – thanks. Looking for Central AC too.
Response:
Just about every manufacturer makes a good furnace. How else could they stay in business. ? What you really need to shop for is a knowledgable installer. Shop warranty. Get several bids. See who’s professional and who isnt. See who performs a heat loss/ energy load calc on your house and who doesnt. Avoid the high and low bids, go for the guy in the middle. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I am shopping for a new furnace and am looking for reviews or feedback on different manufactures. Oh yea the install is a big part of the job. I bought a house in Aug 2000 and been sealing up the gas replace furnace ever since, it replace the oil one back in 1990. Talk about leaks. The worst was on the bottom. The replacement furnace was meant to have a separate box under it to connect the return air to. No room for that so the installer cut a hole in the side. Well it works BUT had to seal the bottom of the unit to the concrete block with caulk and the filter needs to have duct tape over it because it go inline BUT the top is wide open to install and remove the filter. Oh yea I have also sealed all the ductwork too. Time to insulate

Whens the last time you ever saw anybody at Sears who installed air conditioning? NEVER. Oh they’ll sell you one. But then they have a 3rd party contractor put it in for them. The people who install for Sears are too dumb, ignorant or lazy to sell their own jobs. Sears pockets all the profits and the installers have to do all the work, plus be happy with what Sears pays them. Like the previous poster says….forget shopping furnaces, start shopping for a knowledable, highly skilled installer. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Please do be careful, I replaced a central heat/aircon more than a year ago from Sears. Sears bid was the highest among the three bids I received. I thought I could trust Sears. I am sorry for trusting Sears. I paid close to 7K for a 40 tons units. The furnace/aircon installed by a two seperate contractors. It was a hastily installed jobs with air leaking and badly installed unit. They did not reinstalled the gas drip leg. To cut the story short, it took Sears more than a year to fix it. I’m still not satisfied! Regardless how good the furnace/aircon is as good, if it was installed in badly, might as well buy the cheapest one. I suggest you look at Lennox, and make sure you get the salesman to list down in details (plus old and new parts) and explain the installations, also make sure they include a "NEW" thermostat.
